We went to Oradour-sur-Glane yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Well, we wanted to – not that we planned to go there but we drove past and we had like two hours to kill so we decided to stop at the Village Martyr d’Oradour-sur-Glane<\/em> and have a look around.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

I was not allowed in. No Pass Sanitaire*. No vaccination “freedom” pass. I am, again, an outcast. Which is totally ridiculous because the whole village is outside and everyone is required to wear a mask anyway. It’s easier for me to go to a supermarket and queue up with loads of people at the cashier’s than it is to have a look at ruins in the open air. It just doesn’t add up. It doesn’t make any sense. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We decided to see if we can get in anyway. It’s not like there’s the highest walls around it so we could have climbed over easily but given the amount of people inside watching us and also being two people – one of them without the holy shots and also a being une boche<\/em> aka a German (an outcast times two!), we thought it better not to risk it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1944, the German Nazis marched into the village and killed them all. 642 men, women, children – the whole population + refugees . They then looted and destroyed all the buildings. Only a handful escaped. Here’s more info if you want to read up on it.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We managed to get some good photos but of course there’s much better ones on the internet. Best experience for me was that we weren’t the first ones trying to have a look from the outside; there was trampling paths all over the place. Also, witnessing another guy jumping over the wall and then waiting for his family to get through, the legal way. I am sure he didn’t have his “freedom” shots either. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

*the French Pass Sanitaire (proof of vaccination) currently allows you to enter public places, such as restaurants, museums, concert halls, cinemas, festivals, clubs, etc. etc. You’re not allowed in any of these without proof of vaccination. <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
