POIRIER CHENI

Poirier (maskulin) = Birnenbaum / Cheni (maskulin, Schweizer Französisch) = Chaos, Durcheinander

The property is located in the Haute-Vienne, the Limousin region in France.
It is a rural area of rolling wooded landscapes interspersed with streams and rivers and numerous lakes. It also has its fair share of interesting villages and towns, museums and historic monuments. There’s a few megaliths scattered in the woods nearby.

The property itself is isolated and there are no direct neighbours.
It’s almost 3ha/7.5acres in size – 29.916m2 to be exact.

The vegetable plot and meadow are level but most of the property is on a gentle slope.

Aerial view of the plot

A water source feeds a little stream running down to the man-made lake which is approx. 1.000m2 in size. Home to frogs, newts, dragonflies … and a coypu family.

The area which used to be the vegetable plot is around 1.000m2 with existing fruit trees such as figs, apples, pears, peaches, etc. and is bordering the (currently overgrown) meadow.

The woodland is mainly in the middle of the plot and consists of birch, oak, sweet chestnut and some coniferous trees.

All around the property borders are trees and shrubs so it’s nicely secluded and private. The view from the house down to the lake is beautiful and there’s no vis-a-vis.

Nothing has been done to the property for the last 3 years at least, it’s all overgrown with brambles, nettles and such. The fruit trees look very neglected but bringing them back to their glory will be an honour.

I want to create a permaculture haven of bio-diversity with various micro-climates and a forest garden. I want a paradise where insects, animals and humans can thrive and peacefully share the land with each other.

“All the world’s problems can be solved in a garden.”

The lake

Approx. 1.000 sqm of cold, clear water. It’s not very deep – it used to be three times the size but it was reduced to under 1.000m2, so there are no regulations and/or inspections.

The woodland

A beautiful, serene woodland area which was allowed to go wild for a while.
